How much does it cost to learn to dive?

The cost of learning to dive in Vilnius step by step: the intro dive, your first course with an SDI or PADI certificate, further courses, equipment rental and trips.

You learn to dive in steps, so the costs come in parts too: first you can try diving in the pool, then complete your first course and get a certificate, and later choose further courses, equipment and trips. Below is what each step costs at the Divemen diving centre in Vilnius and what the price includes.

1. Intro dive: €150

If you have never dived, start with an intro dive. The price includes a short briefing, the diving equipment and a pool dive with an instructor. No experience is needed; you only need to be able to swim.

It is not a course, so you get no certificate: the intro dive helps you decide whether you want to go on learning. You can also give it as a present: the gift voucher is valid for 12 months.

2. Your first course: €450 or €480

Your first diving certificate comes with the Open Water Diver (OWD) course. It costs €450 with an SDI certificate (SDI Open Water Scuba Diver) or €480 with a PADI certificate (PADI Open Water Diver). Either way you learn with the same instructor at the same places, and both certificates are recognised all over the world and let you dive to 18 m. Both organisations offer courses from beginner to professional, and after a course with one you can continue with the other. We explain how they differ in PADI or SDI: what is the difference?

What the course price includes

  • Theory: at our centre, Justiniškių g. 144C-1, Vilnius, or online
  • Practice: sessions in the Lazdynai pool and four dives in Lake Galvė, Trakai
  • Diving equipment for the whole course
  • Exam
  • Certificate

The course usually takes 3–4 days. You don't need to buy any equipment for it.

What to check in advance

Before the course you will need a medical statement that nothing prevents you from diving. If you want to know all the costs in advance, ask when you register whether there is anything the course price does not cover.

3. The next course: AOWD

After your first course you can take the Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD) course. It costs €450 with an SDI certificate (SDI Advanced Adventure Diver) or €480 with a PADI certificate (PADI Advanced Open Water Diver). The price includes the theory, five open-water dives (among them a deep dive and a navigation dive), diving equipment with a compass, the exam and the certificate.

This certificate lets you dive to 30 m. Some trips need it too: our trip to Mexico, for example, is for divers from AOWD level.

4. Equipment: rent or buy

On courses we provide the equipment. When you start diving on your own, you can rent it: a mask, for example, costs €10 a day, and the full set €70 a day, €80 a weekend or €150 a week. Scuba equipment (regulator, buoyancy compensator, cylinders) is rented to certified divers.

Our instructor advises buying your own equipment in two stages. First a mask, snorkel, fins, suit and boots: they cost relatively little, but they make you much more comfortable and cut what you spend on rental. The regulator, BCD and dive computer are worth buying later, after careful thought. There is more about this in Buying diving equipment: where to start?

A mask must fit your face, and fins must fit your feet and the conditions you dive in. We explain how to choose them in our tips on masks and fins. You will find a selection in our shop: masks and fins.

5. Trips

With a certificate you can also dive on trips. A week-long diving safari in Egypt in November 2026, for example, costs from €1,450. The price includes accommodation on the yacht, meals, airport transfers, 3–4 dives a day, 12 l cylinders and weights. Flights (usually €300–600), visa, insurance, personal equipment rental, crew tips and marine park fees are paid separately. You will find all our trips on the trips page.

Where to start

If you are not sure yet whether you will like diving, start with an intro dive. If you have already decided, you can go straight to the Open Water course. Write to us and we will find a time that suits you.
