An ocean conservation course for everyone
The PADI AWARE course (formerly called Project AWARE) is for anyone who cares about the ocean and the underwater world. No diving experience is needed, there is no age limit, and the course takes place on dry land, with no dives.
The course is based on the 10 Tips to Save the Ocean. You find out what harms the ocean most and, together with the instructor, make your own action plan.
What you learn
- Recognising the main threats to the ocean.
- Treating marine life with respect.
- Travelling and diving as a responsible eco-tourist.
- Taking underwater photos responsibly and using them to inspire others to protect nature.
- Taking part in conservation action that makes a real difference.
How the course runs
You can do the theory on your own online (PADI eLearning, about 1–2 hours). Then you join workshops with the instructor, where you go through the 10 Tips and make your action plan. The whole course takes about half a day; we agree the date with you.
A share of every PADI AWARE course fee goes to the work of the PADI AWARE Foundation: removing marine debris, protecting sharks and rays, expanding marine protected areas and supporting local projects.
What comes next
For divers, this course may count toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating. You can go on to other AWARE courses, such as Coral Reef Conservation. For non-divers, the first step underwater is the Open Water Diver course.
