A course on coral reef conservation
Many people love diving or snorkelling on colourful coral reefs, yet few know what they are really looking at or why reefs matter so much. The PADI AWARE Coral Reef Conservation course helps you understand how complex life on a reef is and shows what you can do to help reefs survive.
The course is for anyone interested in the underwater world: there are no prerequisites, no age limit and no water sessions. Non-divers can earn the certificate too. It is a good course to take before a trip to a coral reef.
What you learn
- What corals are and how a coral reef works.
- Why reefs matter and how they protect both people and fish.
- Why many reefs are in serious trouble today.
- What you can do yourself to prevent further decline.
- How the PADI AWARE Foundation brings divers and other water lovers together for conservation.
How the course runs
The course takes place in the classroom, as a discussion, and lasts a single morning or afternoon. You can prepare with the free PADI AWARE Foundation digital manual "AWARE – Our World, Our Water": reading its chapter on coral reefs is not required but helps. We agree the date with you.
What comes next
A broader ocean conservation course is PADI AWARE (Project AWARE). If you want to start diving, the first step is the Open Water Diver course.
